Laid Off

Now, I'm not going to blame it on the economy, but I was laid off. Fortunately wife and I have saved for a rainy day, so with the addition of the California Economic Development Department, I don't have to sweat out the next few months. Unfortunately it does look like it'll take a little bit of time to figure out what is next. 

Here are the easy steps to apply for unemployment (in California). 

1. Log onto the website:

2. File a claim for unemployment - Takes about 10 minutes. 

3. Wait - You must get a telephone interview and fill out some additional forms they send you in the mail, but right now it is taking an extra week to get that telephone interview. This time might increase if the governor shuts down the unemployment office an extra day or two a month... or lays off a bunch of state workers.
